It used to be that people who were religious were rather uppity and people didn’t care for that. Now it seems to me that people who say they are spiritual but not religious are the uppity ones.
Humans are creatures of habit. Although the voices of anarchy are growing louder these days, no one truly wants there to be no structure to our lives or our society.
Religion is a way to give structure to the faith that is in our hearts. Religion is not a substitute for faith, but it gives an outward structure to our faith so that our faith does not weaken or die but remains vibrant and strong.
I have yet to have someone who claims to be spiritual but not religious really be able to explain to me what that means. When it comes to spirituality and religion, I am not ashamed to say that I am both.
