The topic of abortion is dominating the upcoming 2024 US presidential election and we are roughly 50 days from said election. Since I am strongly in favor of granting unborn children the same rights as those who are already born, these observations will all be from a pro-life viewpoint.
Observation 3: Forgiveness for all
After several years of involvement in the life-affirming movement, it became clear that we could not overlook the guilt that those who chose to end the lives of their unborn children through abortion. Thus, every time the issue of abortion is discussed by life-affirming people we always make sure we emphasize the complete and total forgiveness we have through faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Scripture is very clear about God’s unlimited forgiveness:
“Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD:
"though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool." (Isaiah 1:18, ESV)
"The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
[9] He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.
[10] He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.
[11] For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
[12] as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103:8-12, ESV)
And God’s unlimited forgiveness comes to us through faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ:
Romans 3:23–24
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-24, ESV)
Isaiah 53:5–6
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
[6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:5-6, ESV)
When it comes to sin, we are all equally guilty. No matter what sin anyone has committed God’s love in Christ is sufficient to forgive them all completely.
