In the early days of the struggle those who supported abortion criticized us for being one-issue voters. We shouldn’t just focus on the abortion issue when deciding who to vote for. We should look at all the views of the various candidates.
I, on the other hand, believe that the abortion issue is the biggest issue in my lifetime because legalized abortion does not just impact a woman and her child it impacts all of society. I think Mother Teresa would agree:
“The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between.” (https://www.catholic.org/clife/teresa/quotes.php, accessed 8-26-2024)
Well now it seems that the tables have turned. Since the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned its 1973 Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide it seems to me that the people in favor of abortion have become one-issue voters in the sense that their number one priority is to make sure abortion is still available to all women.
