50 Abortion Observations – Observation 35

“Don’t give up! I believe in you all. A person’s a person, no matter how small.” From the children’s book “Horton Hears a Who” (https://bookroo.com/quotes/horton-hears-a-who, accessed 10-2-2024)

Back in the days when I was trying to get a pornography business to leave our small town, I discovered that the US Supreme Court had ruled that, when it comes to pornography, each community is allowed to set its own standards. Even though all pornography is bad, the thinking goes that what is considered obscene in one community might not be considered obscene in another community across the nation. What is considered obscene in Las Vegas or New York is probably different from what is considered obscene in a small town in Iowa so each community has the right to set its own standards.

With its 2022 Dobbs decision the Supreme Court has decided that when it comes to abortion the situation in similar to the situation with pornography; each community or state can decide what is permissible. As I noted in a previous post, 41 states now have at least some restrictions on abortion and 9 states have no restriction on abortion. Those of us on the life-affirming side are still praying for the day when abortion is once again illegal in every community across the nation.
