November Ballot Measure, Part Eight, Florida

Florida is going to the dogs. In the interest of protecting dogs, specifically greyhounds, voters in the state of Florida will vote on whether or not to ban racing of greyhounds in connection with any wager for money or any other thing of value. If passed, the measure would take effect on January 1, 2021.

Florida is one of 10 state in the country where gambling on dog races is legal.

This measure got on the ballot as a commission referral. Florida is the only state in the country with a constitution revision commission (CRC). The CRC is a 37-member commission that meets every 20 years to propose changes to the Florida constitution.

Other ballot measures the Floridians will be voting on are property taxes, casino gambling, lobbying and voting rights for convicted felons.
