One wonders if what the voters in Indiana are being asked to enact in November will ever be enacted by the federal government. Voters in Indiana will be voting on whether or not to require the legislature to enact a balanced budget.
The only way for ballot initiatives to get on the ballot in Indiana is through legislatively referred constitutional amendments so basically the legislature is asking the voters to require them to enact a balanced budget.
The federal budget deficit now stands at about 21 and a half TRILLION dollars, a number that is just mind boggling to us average folks. Each year over half a trillion gets added to the deficit. I think there is little chance that our federal government will ever enact a balanced budget. It’s just too politically risky. But can we ever have a truly stable economy with such enormous debt?
