Here are pictures from our trip to the 2015 edition of Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
This event features over 150 floral arrangements designed to interpret the diverse artworks in the Institute’s collection. it is by far the most popular event that is held at the museum each year. Best of all, it’s free!
Painting of a tornado next to a “floral” tornado
A couple on their wedding day
A scene from nature
Portrait of a very manly-looking woman
It’s not hard to be inspired by Impressionist paintings!
Very limited color palette
The Three Wise Men
This floral arrangement was designed to honor the 21 Libyan Christians who were martyred recently.
Occasionally you get to see one of the florists touching up their work.
This is a modern depiction of married life.
Another portrait
The “cross” between art and religion
My favorite interpretation of the entire show. The pictures don’t nearly do it justice.
I wonder why the clam phone just never caught on.
Modern art can inspire this:
Picasso!
Tour guides are available for those who are interested.
Dog tags and flowers
A Native American woman
Some of the floral arrangements are so similar to the original artwork.
One of the more unusual combinations
Some more floral arrangements that caught my eye
And now for some just plain amazing art from the Institute’s collection.
Is this the original emoticon?
These are a couple of detail shots from a massive work of sand art that was produced by Tibetan monks on site at the museum several years ago.
And just for fun, a sculpture of a woman holding a man’s severed head!
Another blogger posted about this and I love the whole idea. I’ve never been to the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts. But this exhibit is enticing me to go there. And perhaps take my sister florist with me. Next year. Thanks for the armchair tour.
The MIA is truly a world-class art museum featuring works from all the major artists, past and present. When you go, be sure to take your camera. I’d like to see which works of art catch your attention. Since it’s free you don’t have to wait till next year to go!
