Artist Find

The revolving artwork displayed at our local Owatonna hospital continues to impress me. Here are a few works of one of the current featured artists, Brenda Ward.

One of Ward’s specialties is making original copies of old masters and one of my favorite old masters is John Singer Sergent. Can you tell which painting is Singer Sergent’s original “Lady Agnew” and which is Ms. Ward’s copy? (The masterpiece is on the left.) Pretty impressive copy, I’d say.

“Gryffindor’s Guard” is the title of this work. Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter series. I could not find a real clear connection between this painting and the House of Gryffindor but I like the emotion of this work. In the movie versions of the books one of the Gryffindor’s professors at Hogwarts is played by Maggie Smith.

Here is another remake of the work of an old master, Ms. Ward’s rendition of the Francesco Hayez’s “The Kiss”. The original master is on the left again. I like how Ms. Ward brightened it up.

And here is one of Ms. Ward’s originals, also titled “The Kiss.”

Visit Ms. Ward’s facebook page to see some of her contemporary art.

And here is the article about the exhibit that appeared in our local newspaper:
